HI ALSO I USE A SAT-NAV WITCH ALLWAYS SHOWS THAT I'M DOING LESS THAN MY SPEEDO READS IS THAT CORRECT.DOES A SAT-NAV READ YOUR SPEED MORE ACCURATLY.

I WAS A BUS DRIVER FOR 6 YEARS ,ALOT OF PEOPLE SAY I DRIVE TO SLOW ,BUT I TRY TO DRIVE WITH IN EVERY SPEED LIMIT & PANIC IF I GO OVER BY 2 MILES AN HOUR.

Yes, your GPS is likely to to be more accurate than your speedo. Remember, it's far more important to look at the road than your speedo if you want to drive safely. It's only the pro speed camera people who would rather have you run someone over at less than the speed limit. Here on Safespeed we recommend choosing a safe speed for the conditions.

The speedometer in you car is set to read low (usualy about 10%) this is to alow for other variations such as tyre pressure and wear as well as reading accuracy. The VCA (uk type approval) insist that a speedo must NEVER read low under any circustances otherwise it would result in a recall. Manufacturers play it safe.


It is likely that you sat nav gives a more acurate speed reading under some circumstances (i.e not going round a corner and going at steady speed)

Basically yes.
Also, the more your tires wear down the higher your speedo will read. There are other factors but I would guess that's the biggest one.
So a big difference can indicate tire problems.

Hey, I've found a use for the speedo afterall! :lol:
