North of Glasgow on the Strathblane to Milngavie road there is a 30 mph limit approaching Milngavie that has been in place for a few months.

The start of this limit is in the country about 2 miles from a built up area and street lights.

Apart from having no apparent point and as a result is totally ignored (literally) by 99% of drivers, is it legal?

May well have been illegal in E&W but possibly not in Scotland. See this link

I recall the A770 at Gourock out towards Lunderston being subject of a 30mph limit. I don't think it is still there, but it was completely pointless.
I don't think the Greenock traffic boys enforced it. I'd never seen them there. Is the Milngavie limit enforced?

There is a speed camera about 200m from the built up area.
This is to cover the entrance to a sports club and I have no problem with this as I can remember a few accidents at that spot, and not so many since.
But as far as I can see there is no enforcement yet from this site out into the country.
Are the police not obliged to enforce?

If there are no complaints about speed from members of the public, and no history of collisions caused by speed, then there is really no need to enforce the limit. Hopefully the road would get routine patrol by divisional lads and trafpol, perhaps sufficiently to keep a lid on the nugget drivers.

Ian, the cloch road? Yes I remember it was put down to a 30 limit but was sensibly returned to NSL, it was only imposed because they were putting in the new sewer treatment plant half-way along the road where trucks would be entering and exiting. I had a feeling they would be hesitant to return it to NSL. Although now I think they might be stirring up shit again about this-you know the council's phantom concerned peds wanting bumps and a 20 limit.

I can't recall any bad accidents on the Cloch road or even any recently. Most-if not all-of the accidents are caused by drunken/drugged up NEDS in stolen or "borrowed" cars or just young inexperienced types.

Regards

Andrew

Hi Andrew.

I don't recall too many accidents out to the Cloch Lighthouse, but the stretch beyond Lunderston Bay at Ardgowan Estate was always a nightmare.

A friend of mine killed himself 28 years ago on that mad left hander leading back up to the A78. IIRC there were flowers on the same bend the last time I was up.

Another friend killed an oncoming motorist on the A78 - a very poorly executed overtake on the blind bend at Bridgend Cottages just before Inverkip. He served 16 months of a 3 year stretch.

Both boy racers.

There but for the grace................
