After the 1 pm news yesterday ,..for those who want to listen to this again..

:flamethrow: :flamethrow: :gatso1: :gatso2: :gatso3: :hoppingmad:

The smilies are a way of warning you ... to take something to calm the blood pressure..

OK .. it was about being frightened by the driving standard of your partner.. spouse.. husband .. wife.. boy/girlfriend whatever.

It was inspired by a lady who phoned into the show on the topic of the revamped driving test whereby she accused her husband of speeding.. taking corners too fast und she felt "frightened by his driving".

Anyway.. there was "Rosie .. journalist on some broadsheet .. und her husband Pip.

Rosie accuses Pip on air of

1. driving above the speed limit on motorways. It emerge und she grudgingly admit that he cruising in the traffic moving at an 85th perventile flow of 75 mph :banghead:

2. She accuses him of never taking any notice of her "directions as navigator" und ignoring her calls to "slow down".

I should think so too... :nono: Rosie Liebchen .. that not the way to teach your husband to drive. :hehe: You call him rudest names in your own lingo instead if he not do as ordered..

3. She admits that she has had accidents.. like hitting little things like parked cars.. walls when parking

Rosie Liebchen .. if you cannot see a big car or a an even bigger BOLLARD or a blinking BIG BRICK WALL.. ... I am sure the cyclists in London are ever so safe from your lolly licking style of driving - she had the gall to say she supports speed cameras as "they save lives" und spouted the daft advert which tells folk it ist OK to hit someone at 30 mph "because they willl surive such a hit" - when the emphaisis should be on not actua=ally hitting anyone at all .. und on folk learning the Green Cross Code. You can see why a put a health warning on the listen again invite

4. Pip retorts that he has never had an accident. Feels extremely nervous when in town with Rosie as she has caused their insurance to be at the peak rate because of her carelessness in parking the car.

5. He claims that she does not watch the traffic .. even though she drives very slowly overall und that it ist actually rather dangerous to drive at 40 mph on the motorway.. which Rosie at least agreed with.

I would love to have been a fly on the wall in their living room last night :hehe:  I think someone ended up in the spare bedroom..

The prog continued with umpteen wimmin phoning in to claim their husbands all "drove too fast on motorways" und that little children are dying as a result.

Given that many incidents do occur near schools .. caused by Mumpties und their appalling parking :bunker: .. und one woman has been jailed for drink driving after her five year old screamed for help..

There were some alarming stories though .. with claims of attempting to take the steering wheel from the passenger seat. :yikes:

Surely the easiest way to cause an accident .. which lead me to question the sentence passed on the spotty oik who stole his Mama's car und killed a 12 year old. A passenger grabbed the wheel allegedly. He lost control und collided with the concrete "roadwork" blocks on M602 which have been there for past 15 years to our knowledge.

There was one call though. A lady. Her husband hit a tree. He died .. along with his young son. She claimed her ex-husband who had the children on a custody visit always drove too fast. Had umpteen Gatso points.. over the years.. He lost it on a nearby straight dual carriageway when returning with the children. He clipped the central reserve, spun und collided with a tree.

She claim this was down to "speeding" on the show, But it could have been caused by car going over a deep pot-hole.. an diesel slick.. mechanical fault or a blown tyre. They not apparently had the full inquest yet as this was a recent bereavement. Rosie of course was in her element .. claiming this Papa had been speeding.. und even suggesting a speed camera would have saved them at this point :banghead:

Rosie Liebchen.. the caller said her husband had a history of penalty points given by PC Gatso .. with 6 being on the licence at any one point over the 4 year period... It does not sound like PC Gatso bother him that much .. und he did not seem to learn much from him.. whereas he might have done from a proper :bib: :stop: cop

Guys ,, do have another listen .. but do have a cup of tea und a chocolate digestive when you do.. or milk of magnesia ..

i found so much of it cringeworthy.

alot of sensationalism re: speed, top gear, f1 etc.

and total inability from either party to have critique their own driving rationally.
first chapter of road craft.

Listened to it with my wife, we thought Rosie sounded like a pretty poor driver, typical distracted mum blaming her lack of attention on speed of other vehicles.

We particularly liked the comment about being passed by the lorry, that they had passed earlier, while stopped for a cuppa. Yes dear you would get there just as fast by doing 60mph like the truck, but not if you stopped for a drink as well.

I am not sure any of the callers realised that ones perception of speed as a passenger is different to that as a driver.

I think my wife is a pretty good driver, I never feel uncomfortable being her passenger, in town she drives at about the same speeds I do. My extra-urban driving sometimes scares her, though she admits that some of that is down to her eyesight not being as good as mine so while scared trusts me to be safe. If I am being a bit too enthusiastic she will usually complain about being thrown around rather than the speed. She did comment that I have been getting too close to cars on the motorway before overtaking recently, this is something I was already aware of, it has come about since a number of factors changed my motorway driving style. I think I have it mainly fixed now but she has not been out on the motorway with me for a month or so.

When she is out with me it is like having an extra set of eyes, her perspective from the left means she may spot an indicator I cannot see for instance.

perception in general i think is different, you're not operating at the same level as when driving.

my wife sometimes squeals a bit when another car does something silly, because she's not driving she's not observing & anticipating 100% (fair enough). 90% of the time i've clocked the offending car, anticipated possible conflict 10 seconds previously and positioned myself appropriately.

Quite right, no need for me to have qualified that at all.
