Well, this had to happen sooner or later I guess...

"It is now possible to protect yourself from potential immobility should you be disqualified from driving your car. This new speeding insurance product is designed to subsidise the cost of public transport, thus enabling disqualified drivers to remain mobile. This speeding insurance policy costs £50 a year and pays drivers up to £6,000 towards alternative transport arrangements if they lose their licence.

The policy will under no circumstance be made available to drivers convicted of driving recklessly or while driving while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. It will be made available to those drivers who may have points on their licence and make a simple mistake which takes them to the 12 point limit, thus disqualifying them from driving."

Did they forget we have a crap public transport system? Otherwise we would probably be using it in the first place instead of our cars and not get done for speeding :banghead: I suppose I should be glad someone is at last thinking about society breaking down.

This sort of thing has been available for many years under the St Christopher brand name:

It used to also be available as a protection against disqualification for drink-driving, but the government made them withdraw that cover.

Oh. Thanks Peter. I tried a search which showed it hasn't been covered here so I thought it was something new.

Exactly how it would work with people whom have to travel in their work, as opposed to just going to and from work, I have no idea.

It certainly wouldn't work for me in my job.

Thanks again.

There have also been chauffeur driven schemes too, that you can buy into. That giving you the ability to not use public transport.

If I recall there was something about the Insurance companies being instrumental in aiding the beginning of speed cameras, Paul said something about this, so they are feeding from both sides, so to speak ... perhaps someone else can recall ?
