Road deaths up for Brunstrom – again
By Steve Farrell
Politics & the law

Deaths have doubled on the roads of controversial police chief Richard Brunstrom, nicknamed the Mad Mullah of speed cameras.

Figures just released on North Wales Police’s website show 17 people lost their lives on the region’s roads in the year to August compared to nine the previous year.

It’s the eighth month in a row the force has reported a yearly rise. Figures up to July showed a rise of more than double, from 6 to 13.

The latest report also shows serious and fatal casualties have been rising steadily since 2004.

Brunstrom is famous for his zeal for speed cameras. MCN revealed his force was targeting motorcyclists with a speed trap disguised as a Horse Box.

He also courted controversy by showing pictures of a decapitated motorcyclist at a press conference without asking grieving relatives for permission first.

“It has never been the rule in this country – I hope it never will be - that suspected criminal offences must automatically be the subject of prosecution” He added that there should be a prosecution: “wherever it appears that the offence or the circumstances of its commission is or are of such a character that a prosecution in respect thereof is required in the public interest”
This approach has been endorsed by Attorney General ever since 1951. CPS Code

"The medicine's not working"!

"Double the dose"!

Can anyone get figures for the Isle of Man for the same period? Similar geographicaly and climactically to North Wales, also popular with bikers and, without speed limits outside the towns!

I'd wet myself if they'd remained static or gone down!

NAH -he thinks he's a professional (like a doctor /dentist /lawyer) and is "practising " road safety - trouble is he hasn't quite got it right -another few hundred KSI and he might get there .

Well that request was posted nearly four months ago and it seems no one has. I've searched the IOM Government site and can find nothing either so can only presume by implication there is nothing to report!

I too have wondered about this comparison and it seems the IOM may have got it right; much the same as it used to be right in North Wales. Shame they sometimes try and fix things that weren't broken. And of course, it isn't just North Wales where things have gone awry.

I contacted them some time ago and had a reply. They wanted to know why I wanted the information and gave me the run around so I ended up leaving it, as I was too busy at the time. :(
