The telegraph reported this latest on this here...

The principal is that if you keep to the posted limit you keep the green lights. They used to do this on Oxford Street (London), when you could drive down all of it (well v nearly) and you had to go at the limit to catch them all (night when quite).

I wonder how long before the green light wave spreads from inner cities to rural areas too !

This can only work where many sets of lights are located closely together and linked. This excludes most rural areas. It seems reasonably sensible to me.
