Some may have seen in a posting on another thread that my A4 was off the road for a few weeks. Just got it back yesterday.

Now I've been driving an old N-reg Mondeo 2 litre petrol (GLX, so has air con and ABS), 137bhp.

Going back to the A4 I'm now finding that everyone in front of me is holding me up! I'm not talking about going bombing down the road ignoring the limits, I mean accelerating up to a safe speed for the road.

And speaking of safe speeds for the road, I wonder how many people are aware of the differing performance envelopes of various cars? For example a 2 litre Mondeo will out-accelerate a 1.1 litre Fiesta, but the difference between the Mondeo and the A4 is quite surprising in straight line acceleration.

Of course the A4 will always out-handle the Mondeo, it's 4-wheel-drive, it has wider tyres (235/45R17 as opposed to 185/65R14), more power (210 *cough* I mean 170bhp instead of 137), more torque... but it's also heavier.

Not really sure whether I'm trying to make a point here or just thinking out loud, but maybe those people who drive along in their Micra at 40mph through an NSL and flash anyone that dares to overtake them should try driving a car with decent performance and see what they're missing!

Just my £0.02 worth.
