Was on my way to Keighley today on a job when I found myself behind a West Yorkshire Safety Camera Partnership Ford Galaxy (I made a note of the reg. no.), accelerating to 40mph+ through a 30mph limit along Thornton Road towards the A629 for Keighley, then when the limit changed to 40mph, they accelerated to 50mph+.
The standard of driving was good and the speed posed no risk or danger to anyone for the stretch of road and conditions / surroundings, but had it been the other way round I would have been relieved of £60 and given 3pts.
Seems they don't practice what they preach. Disgusting! it surely doesn't make their goal anymore palitable.

Yes, it's one of the key differences between trafpol and SCPs. Other than in 30 limits, I've never been bothered by a trafpol when doing 10MPH over the limit in appropriate condiitions - and I've seen plenty of them doing the same (and more!) with no blue lights on. Basically, just good, old fashioned common sense. The difference with SCPs is that they're staffed by ordinary human beings who have the same sort of "common sense" as the rest of the motoring public, so it's not uncommon to see one of their vans doign slightly over the odds. Once they park the van up and are open for business, however, the application of "common sense" just doesn't seem to be in their job description!

Report it; they'll ask you how you knew what speed he was going, you'll tell them because you matched it and checked your speedo, and they'll send you a ticket for speeding!

On Friday night, whilst driving home, I encountered a police car coming the other way. He turned his blue lights on, and I figured he had just got a shout. After he had passed the speed camera monitoring the opposing lane, I saw his lights go off again in the rear view mirror. There was no other traffic on the roads (other than me).

Question is was the rest of the paint and vinyl peeling off the car too ? :)

I have seen a report today that in Louisiana USA the police did the camera van for infringement of not indicating at an intersection and fined $182, when they caught up with him. Plus they are so hated, there that they have no intention of using their services, as they regularly park on people's gardens and the camvan people are fed up with paying for 'tow-away' charges to get their camvans back !

Our nearby MSCvans hold up so much traffic, they have to let it pass and correctly use the lay-by to let it all pass, which is good practice at least. Last one I counted 38 cars - lost sight of the rest of them ....
