DRIVERS have been warned they face jail if they do not obey new motorway restrictions.
Workmen have reported several “near misses” on the M60 as drivers ignore reduced speed limits.
Police have been told of cars driving into roadworks and “hurtling towards” road workers.
Most of the incidents are happening close to Bolton, between junctions 13 and 18 of the M60.
Greater Manchester Police has vowed to clamp down on offenders and to use CCTV footage to identify drivers.
Roger Coles of Greater Manchester Police said: “Putting lives at risk with this kind of behaviour is inexcusable. Drivers are certainly risking fines and points but offences like dangerous driving also carry prison sentences.”
A spokesman for A-one+, the company carrying out the roadworks, added: “Within the current M60 works, trenches are being dug across the road at least a metre wide.
“If a car hits one of those at speed then we could be looking at a fatality, not to mention the risks road workers are being exposed to.”
Hang on .. that area has SPECS

per our source who say the Pogo and RA are updated to alert on these.
Also on M60 - around j19-j22 where the road has cracked - there are a couple of bagged over Gatsos ready for when the roadworks there start.
My own personal advice? If there are roadworks - just keep to the ruddy lolly sign. I see no excuse for driving into the roadworks and allegedly driving at the workforce. The only excuse would be if the car broke down - but then they are supposed to offer free tows out to safety in such events.
Somehow I think an exxageration in the reporting of this story - but a heads up to all who use M60 to be careful and COAST courteous
