Does anyone know what type of equipment the North Wales Police force use in their "Arrive Alive" vans?

Is it the LTi 20/20?

Does it do video or take still photos?

Am I correct in thinking it uses a laser guided system to detect your speed?

If I was to recieve a FPN (I haven't yet) would I be within my rights to request video or stills? If I do request the vidoe/stills can I still opt to take the FPN or do I have to then go to court?

Many thanks
Dave.

LTI20/20 uses laser to measure your speed and videos the vehicle for identification.*

To get hold of the video you will have to return the NIP, refuse the Fixed penalty wait for a summons and plead not guilty. You can then insist on disclosure of the video to prepare your defence.

At which point the CPS will in all probability lose interest in pursuing the case.

* It actually measures change of distance over time which is fine if the laser stays on target between measurements.

I know for a fact that they do use LTI20-20 but they may use other devices as well including mobile gatso's.

Have you recieved and returned a NIP?

Do you know what speed they are alleging?

If you saw the van and they were videoing the front of the car then it was almost certainly the dodgyscope. So far only a couple of exceptional cases have managed to get a copy of the video.

You might want to take a look at some threads and ask for advice at the Pepipoo forums if you havn't already.

They will try to bully you into taking the FPN, they will then try to bully you into pleading guilty. Most of what they say is completely false. You can change you plea right up to the actual hearing and magistrates are often very understanding if you explain the situation you were put in. (i.e. having to plead not guilty to satisfy yourself of your guilt or otherwise).

Thanks again for the reply,

I came into view of a arrive alive van at approx 70mph in a 60mph I saw him nice and early and slowed my speed. It was on the Denbigh bypass the way you would go it going Ruthin to Rhyl. No other cars around roads virtually empty, good weather and it was a safe speed. If you know the road it has a long arc of a bend as I came around this arc I saw him in the distance appox 200m away. It has been exactly 14 day since (easter Sunday today). So a couple more days to wait the hopefully i'm in the clear.

I know the road though I have been avoiding wales for a while now.

Unfortunately I have been forced to visit Brunstromia later this year by family members not prepared to travel to the far corners of the Scottish Highlands.
