This bit will gladden many hearts here

If police officers in Yorkshire manage to spot unwary cyclists riding without lights at night, they will issue them with a £30 fine. In London, around 100 people a month are fined for riding their bicycles on the pavement.

It does not make me happy, however no decent cyclist would do this so what is the problem? Riding without lights at night can be dangerous after all, the other option would be to confiscate the bike so a small fine is hardly unfair. It really depends if the situation is taken into account or like the lollipop stick incident the rules are being applied disproportionately.

On one hand my blood boils and on the other I am ashamed to think of all those WWI and WWII people who died for our freedoms.
Police in some areas don't deserve to where the uniform.
Over-reliance on camera systems are a disgrace. The MIB car insurance has errors and the Police know it. If the lady had relatives locally why didn't she get them to go with her to her ex-bad-boyfriends ?

I am not pleased to see people fined when education may work better, encouraging to do the right thing and to be responsible is better than just fining for every infringement. When Police presence is regular a local Policeman may well see that person again and so the 2nd or 3rd time then enforcement maybe proportionate and fair. Plus the cop receives respect something that is being totally eroded in our current society.

The over-zealous Council with bins need to be completely reformed. I wish I could have my Council tax reduced appropriately and I will take my own rubbish to the local dump whenever appropriate. Then I just have a few standard dustbins, can go and smash up bottles in the bottle bank, and never worry about washing my waste or what day the bins are emptied or the fear and paranoia about when to place to the bin, what is placed in the 'right' bin (even!), or if it is a little too full !
It is all so totally out of hand it is utterly insane.
We have to break the link between income from ANPR and cameras that is funding Police and Councils, the Gov might as well have given then a licence to print money, but this is at the public's expense.
How can a Government treat it's citizens with such contempt it is a disgrace. Why should a Gov want to be at war with it's own people !? That has to be incompetence of the greatest measure.
