A947 speeders warned of crackdown

A promised crackdown on speeding drivers on a north-east road with a reputation for serious accidents swung into operation yesterday.
Mobile cameras operated by the North-east Safety Camera Partnership (Nescamp) began targeting motorists on the A947 Banff-Aberdeen route.
The road has a growing reputation for a disproportionate number of collisions where excess speed is a factor.
Nescamp manager Chris Hume has promised that the road will be targeted regularly to persuade drivers to slow down.

He said: “No apology will be given for the amount of enforcement the A947 will see over the coming months.
“We are going to be there and the message is that drivers should keep their speeds down.”

Formal proceedings will be taken against motorists caught exceeding limits by the Nescamp cameras.
Camera vans were in various locations yesterday and will be in operation again tomorrow and on Saturday.
After that, said Mr Hume, the camera vans would become a regular sight on the road for the forseeable future.
He said: “We are determined that motorists understand the need to reduce speeds on the A947 in order to cut the number of serious and often tragic collisions.”
