Not so much "I don't believe it!" as "Why don't the police believe reasonable people with a sensible story anymore?"

As the sober driver had left, were the other, slightly inebriated couple "drunk in charge"?

Something doesn't quite add up here. What did the driver wait ten hours to report his car was missing? Why didn't Mr Brackstone know the name of the driver
?

I was coming back from a night out with a mate a few years ago, I had been drinking, he hadn't. We got near Shrewsbury and although about 15 miles away from home, he realised he didn't have enough fuel to get us home.

He drove to what he thought was a 24 hour petrol station to find that it was closed. He decided to walk a bit further to the next one with an empty can. I stayed in the vehicle...not sure why (this was about 20 years ago).

I needed a pee so decided to disappear behind the empty petrol station. As i was behind the building i heard a diesel car drive up and stop (it had to be police at that time of night) sure enough as I walked round to the front of the building they were there. I explained my story, they carried on up the road , found my mate and took him to the only 24 hour petrol station in shrewsbury at the time (lucky they did , it was a long way from the one he was walking to).

it just goes to show the difference in police behaviour and attitudes over the years/ geography of the country.

My views do not represent Safespeed but those of a driver who has driven for 39 yrs, in all conditions, at all times of the day & night on every type of road and covered well over a million miles, so knows a bit about what makes for safety on the road, what is really dangerous and needs to be observed when driving and quite frankly, the speedo is way down on my list of things to observe to negotiate Britain's roads safely, but I don't expect some fool who sits behind a desk all day to appreciate that.

Oscar - you got any BIB up there any more - spent a lovely weekend up there fortnight ago - ( wife's family had a wedding ) -where years ago I would have seen dozens of police vehicles ( used to live in that neck of woods late 70's) --never saw one . Even Middlesbrough nick looked deserted .
