Uses GSM and GPS both are "fragile" in europe. Trafficmaster tried to market a navigation module to emergency services based on GSM but failed because the network is so unreliable.

Both sustems rely on an antenne. Shield this and you are off-line...

It is a VERY easy system to trip up. No one will be able to tell if it is accidental or not.

There is a push to get it into europe for road tolls because the German system is so crap.

Unfortunatly there are MASSIVE vested interests within the sysyem and service suppliers. not to mention major back-handers to Politicians and universities to make sure the figures say the right thing.

I'd be tempted to boycott IBM if they bring this system over here.

if this has the potential of warning the driver of speeding, it has the potential to tell the government too. this thing could mean the end of scameras since they could use it to send tickets automatically. it would also be compulsory to have it working at all times and no doubt at our own expense. fail to comply and you will receive yet another fine.
this thing is bad news for all drivers whether vocational or private

Asus do some nice Athlon 64 laptops :)

Seriously though, if this system works over there you can bet government in Europe will be after it (I beleive limited forms of it are already in use in trucks in some places) so anything to discourage them bringing it out over here has to be good.

Anyone here got influence in the IT procurement processes at their jobs?
