Police crackdown on speeding in Penistone
Published 7 July, 2010

Seven motorists were issued with £60 speeding fines during a one-day operation run by Penistone Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) last month.

One 16 June, officers worked with the Safety Camera Partnership (SCP) to tackle the issue of speeding on some of the area’s roads after it was highlighted as a PACT (partners and communities together) priority by concerned members of the public.

With the help of the SCP’s speed detection camera, officers were able to identify those motorists who were exceeding the speed limit and then stop the individuals to advise them of their offence.

The SNT visited Sheffield Road, Oxspring and Knabbs Lane in Silkstone Common. Speed limits on these roads vary but where the SNT were located, the limit was 30mph.

Six motorists were issued with speed advisory letters. Motorists who were driving at either 37, 38 or 39mph were told they could either attend a speed awareness course at a personal cost of £70 or be issued with a £60 fine and three points on their licence. Seven chose to pay the fine and four opted for the course.

PCSO Anthony Holmes said: “Operations like these are aimed at educating motorists of the dangers of speeding rather than handing out penalties. However, if motorists are exceeding the limit excessively, we have no choice but to take appropriate action. Penistone SNT will continue to carry out similar operations to tackle speeding with the aim to maintain the safety of our roads.”
I guess people find it insulting enough to receive a ticket (totally disrespected failed policy) and chose not to go on a course where they may have to listen to a lot of biased non-sense.

Once upon a time we had POLICE OFFICERS UPHOLDLDING THE LAW, AND ESTIMATING THAT DRIVERS WERE EXCEEDING THE LIMIT .NOW IT'S PLASTICS ,WITH NO TRAINING .

TIME FOR MORE OF THE ANTI LEGISLATION TO KICK IN ,ME THINKS

( and it's been written in caps to highlight the problem)
