And how are you supposed to answer "What are you most likely to speed?"

(a) Morning
(b) Afternoon
(c) Evening
(d) At night
(e) I never speed

No option for "all the time"

Yeeeeeesssssss.....

I put 'at night', but that - and some of the others - could have done with an "all of the above" option.

What the hec is the one about are you less likely to speed if you have your dog in the car? Don’t they mean your child, or is it the case that people care more about their dog than their child?

Weird of what! :?

You will be branded a threat to society by going over a speed limit where it is safe to do so, and suffer the consequences of your actions in a way criminals do not, more so than someone who is a real threat to our society.

I posted on a different forum that I drive with less g force when the dog's in the car, but I don't think I "speed" less.

Typical manifestation with the obsession with 'speed'. I demonstrated to Mrs Theboy on a rather twisty A-road just how quickly you could cover ground without breaching NSL (300 hp helps) recently. If the dog had been in the car he would have been all over the boot, but I guess it was ok because I wasn't "speeding".

I find there 'poll' extremely 'loaded' and I am utterly surprised at the lack of 'proper' or complete answers !

IAM polls - Speeding Poll

Speeding is illegal, the following questions are hypothetical and seek to address the motivations behind speeding and temptation to speed. Please answer as honestly as possible.
1) Are you an IAM member?*
IAM Member / Associate member / Not a member

First many of the questions imply that you can select several of the possible answers yet you cannot.
Second there are very limited options to every question thus there are only a few likely outcomes from this 'forced answer survey'.
Third it never allows for anyone to answer 'well', it assumes that all those that take part speed, and do so for all the worst possible reasons only, so it is biased - so all results will be pre-loaded.
From this they do not understand why or how or when people speed - yet I dare say this survey will be used in all sorts of ways and publicised in many areas too, as if totally un-biased.
Total lack of clarity over every specific detail that may easily make you answer completely differently.

IAM Poll on Speeding wrote:
2) Do you break the speed limit regularly?*
Yes
No

- What is 'regularly'? What is 'break' the speed limit - 1mph over as you go down a hill ?

IAM Poll on Speeding wrote:
3) Do you aim to comply with the speed limit?*
Yes
No

What person doesn't aim to comply ? So this is a 'yes' to make you feel comfortable question ... ? The psychology one and I bet there are more - very sadly.

IAM Poll on Speeding wrote:
4) Do you find it difficult to comply with the speed limit?*
Yes
No
Define 'difficult' - and difficult implies try not to, what if you want to say perhaps 'not really' than no or yes ?

IAM Poll on Speeding wrote:
5) Which of the following would make you most likely to speed?
Late for something
Don't agree with the limit in certain areas
Unlikely to get caught
It's more fun
I don't even think about it
None of these would be likely to make me speed

'make' you speed ? !! This implies that it is not within one's own control ! ???? And what if no none, the last answer is wrong for the none condition as it implies that one does speed - as something else will !
... and 'which' implies more than one but only one answer is possible, what about other ? what about

IAM Poll on Speeding wrote:
6) Which of the following would make you the least likely to speed?
Police presence
Speed cameras
Flashing 'SLOW' signs
Speed humps
Conscience
Worry that you'd hit someone
I never speed anyway
what about err 'conditions' / environment (as in local features, not carbon etc). What about paranoia, fear of loosing licence and so on and on and on..... why just these ?
What if you 'try not to speed - you cannot give the last answer as that is wrong too !

IAM Poll on Speeding wrote:
7) Have you ever been caught speeding?
Yes
No

What about 'almost or nearly' - they could exist ? what is caught - what if you got off a fine or went on a course ? How do you know the equipment wasn't wrong? there are 1000's or wrong convictions out there ?
What about - have you ever been convicted and had it removed from an error of any nature ?
Have you ever been on a 'speed awareness course' ?

IAM Poll on Speeding wrote:
8) If you do go over the speed limit, are you less likely to speed with your family in the car?
Yes
No
I never speed
No one can say they have 'never sped' - one might try to never intend to speed ....
What is 'go over the speed limit? by 1mph - by 10mph? for 1 ft or 100ft or 2 miles ?
what exact counts -
what about that most speedo's are not even accurate !?

IAM Poll on Speeding wrote:
9) If you do go over the speed limit, are you less likely to speed with other people's children in your car?
Yes
No
I never speed
No one can say they have 'never sped' - one might try to never intend to speed ....
The implication of these last two questions is very curious indeed ! What you care about other's more than your own kids or that you care about your own more than others ? or that you are more distracted the more kids int he car - or there is now so much noise it is deafening and you are now have a major distraction ?
Again how much, how far, how long to notice when or how much you looked at the speedo to check?
If you react to slow to within the legal limit did that count ?

IAM Poll on Speeding wrote:
10) If you do go over the speed limit, are you less likely to speed with your dog in your car?
Yes
No
I never speed
No one can say they have 'never sped' - one might try to never intend to speed ....
How much etc ....
what about 2, 3 or more dogs ? or is it assumed that people only ever have one dog ?
This is just so badly thought out it is worthless !

IAM Poll on Speeding wrote:
11) If you do go over the speed limit, are you more likely to speed when driving for work or on business?
Yes
No
I never speed
No one can say they have 'never sped' - one might try to never intend to speed ....
How much by for how long etc ...work is not business ? what about all other business type travel ???? Holiday or does that not count - just looking for answers on a specific group I reckon ! Why not just ask directly !
Get the 'real' answers an treat the public with respect !

IAM Poll on Speeding wrote:
12) At what point in the day would you be most likely to speed?
Morning
Afternoon
Evening
Night
Never - I don't speed
No one can say they have 'never sped' - one might try to never intend to speed ....
err what about all or some or when exactly is each time frame - what about lunchtime - tea time etc ???
This forces an answer - no one can say 'never' ... 'never intend to' sure .... but that is not an option - Nor for that matter is 'other' - on any of the questions ...

IAM Poll on Speeding wrote:
13) On which roads would you be most likely to speed?
Motorways
Rural roads
In towns
None - I never speed
No one can say they have 'never sped' - one might try to never intend to speed ....
Again - can't say never ... but never intend ...
What about all or 2 ..... what about (now) semi rural or semi urban ?

What about dual carriageways ?

The answers will be loaded ...

We must do our own survey ! :)
This will just be non-sense and the answers so loaded it will give them the answer that they seek - probably ... and very sadly.
I thought better of them ! How wrong one can be ! :(

What is sad is that this comes from the IAM which is suppose to be a body of advanced drivers that should know better.

I've just spotted something! Q13 in particular:
13) On which roads would you be most likely to speed?
Motorways
Rural roads
In towns
None - I never speed

Even weepej freely admits to speeding, and thus can't answer none to this question, I'd be interested to see his answer to this question.

1. Do you drive at an appropriate speed for the conditions and hazard density presented:

- all the time;
- most of the time;
- not often;
- never.

2. Are your speeds noted in 1. above:

- always lower than the posted limit;
- mostly lower than the limit;
- mostly above the posted limit;
- never below the limit.

Yes, I know these are also "leading" questions. :)
