Hi-tech Swiss speed camera

If you are thinking of speeding on the roads in Switzerland then think again. It is testing and rolling out a camera that can monitor 22 cars in four lanes and spot a range of motoring offences.

The Traficstar SR590 is being tested in Geneva and uses 3D technology to track and pinpoint vehicles. Each camera costs 80,000 Swiss francs and is made by a firm based in Zurich, Multanova.
It is being used and tested on the Mont Blanc bridge in the city centre and will be rolled out in other locations.

Sadly the police will no be saying where.

Other traffic police forces will be watching its development closely as it also has other functions.
It can record over-taking on the inside, driving too close to the vehicle in front, spot when cars go into bus lanes or cycle lanes, make an unauthorised turns and several other offences.

At present there are 100 speed cameras across Switzerland.
Recent high-speed offences on the alpine motorways have made the headlines.
