Hi there...am new to this forum and I yes, I detest speed cameras!...enough of that for now....can anyone please tell me if it's possible to be done for speeding in the following situation?

4 lanes, 2 one way, 2 the other.
camera and lines both on the other side to me.
no camera and ceratinly no lines on my side of the road.
in the outside lane and doing a little over the speed limit (sorry), the camera flashes, yet it did not flash the BMW in front of me which was going even faster!..I'm driving a Citreon van.
It's done it B4 but no letter.

Thanks, Simon (Cardiff)

Hi Simon,

and welcome!

If it was a fixed camera pointing on the other side of a dual carriage way against your travel then there is a very good chance you did not set it off.

Please post which road your are talking about and I may be able to clarify things further (work just north of Cardiff) .

If the worst happens get yourself off to http://www.pepipoo.com/ before you do anything else.

Cheers

Paul

Thanks...there was no car on the opp. side off the road....its the last camera on Cowbridge Rd. west on the way to Cowbridge (I've got another story about the A48!)...just B4 B'n'Q

..it happened as well a month or so ago, same circumstances...my girlfriend who is a legal sec. tells me the lines HAVE to be on my side of the road! ..hope she's right.

There may be a fault with it, I'd be interested if anyone else has had similar experiences.

Simon.

Ah those machines are so accurate.

What would have happened if somebody had been drving the other way at a perfectly legal speed when you triggered the thing? Well in theory they should check the supporting photo evidence and determine that it was a false positive. In practice if the flash interval was .7 rather than .5, or if they were a bit short of their target this week, then the NIP would have been out and another innocent victim would have been chewed up by the machine....

.yes, it's an absolute disgrace isn't it!....I've looked on pepipoo but cant find anything to say that the lines HAVE to be on your side of the road to prosecute....

Simon ' my God I dont even ever wanna drive my 260z again in this country!' Adams

Its happened to me on the Canterbury ringroad. I thought I was in trouble but no NIP ever arrived. I think its highly unlikely you would get any comeback from this unless the camera was specifically designed to catch you in this way, and it doesn't sound like it is.

A flash when driving on the opposite side of the road usually indicates a dummy camera in my experience if a GATSO. (edited)

you will have a 14 day wait to see if you receive anything provided you are and have been the registered keeper for some time and not moved recently, but as of yet i have not seen or heard of anyone receiving a NIP in theses circumstances

cheers,
matt

Assuming it's a Gatso, you will not get an NIP if it was on the other side of the carriageway. Unfortunately we will probably never know if someone going the other way is prosecuted fraudulantly.
