Motorist caught speeding eight times in four months by same camera

A WOMAN has been banned from driving after she was caught speeding EIGHT times in four months – by the same speed camera.

Monika Lukasik-Krol, 35, clocked up 24 points for breaking the 30mph limit driving to work. She was flashed going between 40-45mph in Welwyn Garden City, Herts, from May to August, and was even caught twice in one day.

Polish Lukasik-Krol, who admitted speeding, was fined £340 and banned for nine months, told St Albans magistrates: “The road’s big. It’s difficult.”
I wonder what was truly going on 'difficult' is hardly any explanation.

I'm guessing this (Google Street View), or this (opposite carriageway), is the location in question.

Answers on the back of three £20 notes, please :)

The usual reason is "local concerns" expressed to a Councillor needing to be re-elected. No evidence of danger is required.

That and the need to raise cash for the SCP benevolent fund.

"Why is the road 30mph". Simple, so they can make lots and lots of money.

There may well be times when that stretch of road needs a speed of 30mph or may be less, but in the situation shown the limit is totally unnecessary. At one time speed limits were set to suit the road when in favourable conditions. Now it seems the limit is set based on the worst possible conditions. Judging by some of the limits we are getting these days, I can only assume that those that set them never drive the route themselves, don't drive or are completely incompetent drivers.

Correct, this is how it goes.

Person who doesn't drive complains of speeding traffic (usually meaning high volume) to local councillor (incompetent) who passes it to LA Highways Dept, where someone living 30 Miles away(never driven the road, ever) puts in a speed limit order to justify their wage packet for that week/month.

My views do not represent Safespeed but those of a driver who has driven for 39 yrs, in all conditions, at all times of the day & night on every type of road and covered well over a million miles, so knows a bit about what makes for safety on the road, what is really dangerous and needs to be observed when driving and quite frankly, the speedo is way down on my list of things to observe to negotiate Britain's roads safely, but I don't expect some fool who sits behind a desk all day to appreciate that.
