Villagers urged to back speed camera scheme

A PARISH council is looking for villagers support to introduce a community speed camera scheme.
Brixworth Parish Council is hoping to be loaned a hand-held speed camera under the Community Speed Watch scheme.
However it needs 500 signatures from Brixworth residents to go ahead with the scheme.
The council is also looking for people willing to volunteer to man the camera.
Under the scheme, villages are loaned a radar speed camera to undertake traffic monitoring with the assistance of the police.
Those caught speeding by a Community Speed Watch camera receive a letter from the police explaining the purpose of the project and warning them about their speed.
Police warn that repeat offenders could face prosecution.
The scheme has been run in other villages in the area in recent years, including in Welford and Clipston.
To support the project, sign one of the forms available at Lovell’s Hardware store in Hunters Way, Spratton Road.
Anyone willing to volunteer to undergo training and use the camera can indicate their interest on the form.
