Police officers caught speeding

Using exhaustive searches of the internet, we've unearthed some of the most high-profile cases of police officers receiving punishment for their motoring offences or being accused with no case being proved (there is no suggestion of wrongdoing in the latter cases). The payback for those who were punished ranged from points to bans and even jail terms.
Jeremy Lowe - 37mph -
http://cars.uk.msn.com/features/photos. ... 761&page=1Detective inspector Jeremy Lowe received three points for doing 37mph in a 30mph when he claimed he was rushing home for a bath after dealing with a dead body. Lowe already had nine points on his licence from previous speeding offences when he was caught in August 2003. Under totting-up rules, he would now have 12 points and an autonmatic ban, but he escaped disqualification on this occassion.
Sir John Evans - 67mph -
http://cars.uk.msn.com/features/photos. ... 761&page=2Sir John Evans (pictured), the former chief constable of Devon and Cornwall, was fined £500 for driving at 66mph on the A30's 40mph zone in November 2003. He pleaded guilty and was also given six points on his licence. At the time, he already had three points taking his total to nine. An automatic ban is enforced when you reach 12 points.
David Mayes - 73mph -
http://cars.uk.msn.com/features/photos. ... 761&page=3David Mayes, a copper who gave a thumbs up sign on two 999 calls as he drove through a speed camera, was banned for six months. Mayes, driving a Peugeot 307 patrol car (pictured), was also fined £400 for admitting driving without due care and attention. He had been clocked driving at 68mph and 73mph in a 40mph zone in July 2007 in Sheffield.

http://cars.uk.msn.com/features/photos. ... 61&page=22The truth is that 'speed' is an arbitrary figure, 20mph can be dangerous on the Motorway ... it is only that they are Police officers, that makes it so hypocritical, but they are human ... and in many ways are only acting like some others ... which in reality is more likely not less.
It is because they are meant to be extremely concerned with upholding the Law that it makes us all so appalled at their actions.
By monitoring 'speeds' all over the Country, all speed cameras show is just how much everyone (still) speeds at that specific location.
The setting of speed limits can in many cases be to 'blame', than people who are above a specified posted limit. We must return to setting limits at the 85th %ile ... I appreciate that obtaining this true data will be far harder now that so many motorists are so paranoid at everything that may possibly be a speed camera.
