Child rushed to hospital after crashing motorbike in Carshalton
3:54pm Tuesday 26th July 2011

A six-year-old boy has been rushed to hospital after crashing a mini-motorbike, according to reports.
The incident happened on Sunday (July 24) in Byne Road in Carshalton at around 3pm.
The full details of the incident are not yet known but the child was taken to St George’s Hospital with serious head injuries.
A spokesman for the London Ambulance Service said: “We were called at 3.15pm to reports of a road traffic collision involving a mini-motorbike.
“We sent a single responder and car and two ambulances. A six-year-old boy with serious head injuries was taken to St George’s Hospital, in Tooting, as a priority.”
Mini-motorbikes stand approximately two-foot high, can travel at speeds of up to 60mph and have become an urban modern-day menace.
According to the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, at least seven deaths, five children and two adults, have already been attributed to the bikes The deaths include a six-year-old boy who died when he lost control of his mini-motorbike while being chased by a dog.

If a child is caught riding one on the road, pavement or in a public place they will now face prosecution, just like adults do.
Any penalty points handed out by the court will be kept on file and activated as soon as they are old enough to apply for a driving licence at 17.
Insurance companies can refuse to insure them once they have passed their driving test.
If they are getting so high are they now skewing the National figures and are they counted as a motorbike accident or a pedestrian one, I assume the former ?
