When I viewed it I noticed the street lights and figured it was a 30mph.

As a 'road' it ought to be a 50mph or a 60mph, but noticing the pavements and a few 'buildings' on the right, I'd reckon that might be considered a 40mph.
Having looked at the Google Streetmap I see that there is a camera sign and a Gatso opp the Ind buildings, with a potentially busy turning that would make sense for a 40mph but as a 30mph it seems potentially incorrect.

As you go further in the School, ped crossing, side road, quickly establishes a 30mph environment, but it seems too soon where you have posed the question.
Going back (reversing) from your point, toward Leaventhorpe there are houses and a junction. So upon consideration I'd have made that section, from visual observations only, a 40mph.
Normally and obviously Stats of all incidents and figures over a period, as well as traffic volume and density, would need to be considered to ensure the right decision. I have seen Council minutes that show how they conclude a speed for roads and some do go up and some are lowered.
Perhaps an approach to the Council to understand why the 30mph is extended for this section might show the reason.

I would hazard a guess since the Gatso is opposite the Industrial buildings, that, that turning has seen incidents, so they have 'added an effect' to attempt to deal with the issues. IMHO clearly a wrong one but that isn't the topic !

Out of interest, the parallel thread on SABRE where this was discussed is here:

It's nice to see that highways engineers are still an arrogant breed, who couldn't possibly admit to doing anything wrong, as they must be second only to God.

I don't suppose those facts might be a few old ladies who don't like cars or the councillor who has just bought a lovely thatched cottage on a busy NSL A road....NOOOO, not likely!!!

Ah yes, what an obnoxious, arrogant, patronising attitude (as I pointed out in the thread). "We are the experts, you ignorant plebs should shut up and do what you're told." It's not hard to see where the STASI found their recruits.

And County Highway officials come a close second. Possibly in more counties than mine. Last round of speed limit reductions in Warks, some County Councillors said NO.Police said NO ( to a lot of reductions). Tough ,said Warks county officers, you're getting them anyway.

Interestingly our latest round of speed limit butchering came from Councillors. The traffic guys and police assessed the roads and said they were fine for 50, but no, Cllrs want it so they get a reduction to 40.

Don;t know why the council doesn't save a big wage bill and get rid of the people who have the training and experience to design this sort of stuff and just have the Cllrs doing it! :headbash:

Why even have councillors who get an allowance...mrs smith and her cronies down the W.I. can do just as good a job.
