A19 death crash texting driver jailed

The car driven by Noble Noble was sentenced for causing death by dangerous driving
A woman who killed a man as she sent a text message while driving has been jailed for three years.

Susan Noble, 29, was driving on the A19 near Northallerton, North Yorkshire, when she crashed into a stationary car at the side of the road.
Alexandru Braninschi, 25, who was standing at the side of the stationary vehicle at the time, was killed.
Noble, of Reeves Way, Doncaster, had admitted causing death by dangerous driving at Teesside Crown Court.
Mr Braninschi, a Romanian national, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, between the A684 and the A172, in December 2011.

He had been standing near a car while the wheel was being changed when Noble's Fiesta ploughed into it.
Police secured clear evidence that Noble was using a mobile phone to exchange text messages with a friend.
Noble, who is originally from County Durham, was also disqualified from driving for six years and will have to take an extended driving test.
After the sentencing, North Yorkshire Police urged people not to use mobile phones while driving, saying it leads to "horrific consequences".
Traffic Sgt John Lumbard said: "Susan Noble has fully accepted that she is responsible for the tragic death of Mr Braninschi due to a serious error of judgement.
"As well as leaving one man dead, the collision has left a family grieving for their loss and a young woman with the knowledge that she is responsible for his untimely death."

I think the Court did the right thing. This is a very tragic and serious case where major distraction has resulted in the death of another. It cannot get more serious.
To be so casual and careless is appalling. Lets hope many will learn from this and remember that concentration on the task at hand is crucial to their and others safety.

Not to excuse this but ...
There seems little to encourage the motorist to do the right thing, to hold an interest in driving, or enjoying it either, so where can the 'average driver' learn and grow in knowledge, skills and abilities in driving techniques. Public info films are rare and Traffic BIB far too rare. (Was on LBC this evening talking about this.)
