What really pisses me off lately is the rise in careless driving examples that I see, more than a few times daily, such as the car following another at 40MPH (usually below the limit) but FAR too close to stop. The ones turning right at a roundabout in the the left hand lane with no indicators and the examples such as today, of fairly dense mist/fog, with no lights. All dangerous in certain circumstances ( more so than doing 35 in a silly 30MPH limit, that never was) but the chances of getting fined for doing so is like the chance of a lottery win.

My views do not represent Safespeed but those of a driver who has driven for 39 yrs, in all conditions, at all times of the day & night on every type of road and covered well over a million miles, so knows a bit about what makes for safety on the road, what is really dangerous and needs to be observed when driving and quite frankly, the speedo is way down on my list of things to observe to negotiate Britain's roads safely, but I don't expect some fool who sits behind a desk all day to appreciate that.

The other day, Mrs Mole was laughing at a thread on some mums' forum that she sometimes goes on - entitled "How do I know which switch is for the fog lights?"

I think we forget (being largely car enthusiasts on here) just how little interest the majority of driving licence holders (I hesitate to use the term "drivers"!) take in their cars - or the driving thereof! In fact, it's only when you see stuff like that, you realise why there isn't even less support for automated speed enforcement than there already is!! :headbash:

The preaching locally on enforcement of the various 20 limits locally would make me laugh if therec wasn't a more serious side . A lot of the time , 20 in certain sections of one road is actually a sensible speed . But at times try driving at 20 ,or less . You will usaully get some idiot behind who tries to push you on and agressively tailgates . Slowing down and letting them past is not an option as road is too narrow ,but do we see any dangerous driving enforcement to curb this and let those who want to drive at a sensible speed do just that . Too much trouble .

I was asked to help a friend sell a Freelander on ebay.
I took the pictures and filled in the sellers form for them - but was told it didn't have Air Con.

I was certain it should - the spec was good for everything, so I took a look - and discovered that in 18 months of driving it, they had not realised they had air con, as they didn't recognise the snowflake symbol on the switch!!!!

Similar story some years ago ,when MK2 Caveliers were used as taxis. I followed an out of town one into a layby and mentioned that he had rear fogs on . Felt a bit sorry,as at this time our local force had a purge on unwanted lights. He did know they were on ,but had no idea where the switch was . On this model , the switch had a warning light on the switch .
Second example involved a police panda ,i met with main beams on .I flashed my main beams to get his attention ,and he stopped alongside . This was when I found it was police vehicle "What's up " was his response -"I thought it was some young plonker that didn't know where his dip switch was " was my reply. "Sorry ,It's some old plonker" was the laughingly reply "it's hard to see the main beam indicator in these things".
