I'd walk by the side of the road myself, but I should be able to walk down the middle and come to no harm right?

I once rounded a bend on a country road in mid Wales, at about 6AM and found a cow <staggering back from an all night drinking session> (that last bit might not be true), walking down the middle of the road. That wasn't you, in fancy dress, by any chance. Weepy?

Mind you, even the thick sheep tend to keep to the verges, on blind bends.

IIRC the only two things that a ped can do that's specifically illegal is loiter on a pedestrian crossing or walk along a motorway.

How odd?! So, it's illegal for a ped to loiter on a bit of road put there specifically for them, but they can stand about (never mind loiter!) anywhere on the rest of it?!

Perhaps you'd better scrub up on your road law for somebody that claims to be such an experienced driver.

The Zebra, Pelican and Puffin Pedestrian Crossings Regulations and General Directions 1997 wrote:
19. No pedestrian shall remain on the carriageway within the limits of a crossing longer than is necessary for that pedestrian to pass over the crossing with reasonable despatch.

It's even in the highway code:

You MUST NOT loiter on any type of crossing.
Laws ZPPPCRGD reg 19 & RTRA sect 25(5)

Oh I'm not doubting it Weepy - I just think it's another one of those areas of legislation where it's odd that someone felt the need to specifically prohibit pedestrians standing around on the one bit of the road SPECIFICALLY intended for them to use, when (if you're to be believed) the law is perfectly happy for them to stand around on every other bit indefinitely! Do you not think it a bit odd???

I'd suggest he's on his trike again, heading for the track under the bridge. Ignore him as the dry ground might get wet ,and he'll have to call for motorised ,non bike ,help .
