Yeah I've seen a few articles on this and it is very disturbing.
To 'wonder' whether you might have been noticed for a momentary infringement that might have been safe or not is a bad route for road safety to go down.
CCTV as a method to Police is awful.
Far better to have a proper policeman (generic) on the road doing their job ! Their mere presence will enstill good behaviour and that is precidely what is required. So to employ a SpyCam than the Policeman to do a far far better job in the first place is nonsense and a further waste of tax payers money.
It screams of indiscriminate prosecution for the sake of it.
There is no encouragement to do the right thing.
I see many parents park illegally momentarily. There will be a gradual increase of pressure on schools to provide kiddy drop-off/pick up areas. Perhaps the real answer it to suspend road regulations for a set marked distance outside schools during their rather essential requirement to drop off/pick up. Have a policeman on hand at locations where things can be awkward.
Lets face it there is a need for the Council to provide this need. Whilst normally there should be good clear vision around the school entrances (maybe more of them to help avoid pinch points?) perhaps at the school start and end times the need to park is clearly an essential one ?
So when was it decided that this need for all the extra 'space' around schools is required when it is the very nature of dropping off and collecting happens when the kids are all over the place ? It seems that the whole thing needs a review. I rarely see kids about out of school start/end times so is there a need to have the road regulations there in the first place?
Allow for zebra crossings and lollipop ladies (generic) but do we really need all the extra parking preventative markings?
Just a rather 'creative thought' !
Part of the 'problem' is the time that each vehicle is stopped for. (People could hug before getting into the car so the 'good bye' is completed earlier too?)
Might there be any serious consideration to having an outside pavement/road escalator ?
... So each vehicle goes onto the escalator, kids alight and then vehicle moves off as soon as is possible. don't have to fully stop but that (older) children can exit and then car can then move off??? It might present some younger kiddy problems, but maybe for some groups of older kiddies it might work ??
