That is outrageous ! I hope that they refund her immediately!
I've had a burglary where my car was stolen - I know how she feels ! :(
If she made NO contract with the recovery company then she has NO debt to pay.
That is just stunningly terrible. :(

Surely the insurance company will cover it.

That's how it's worked when I've had a car written off and the police arranged for it to be recovered and stored at an exorbitant rate. Though this was a few decades ago.

Our local fireservice has admitted defeat in chasing a motorist for a £2500 clear up bill for a diesel spill.

Neither their insurance or the motorist would pay up and I don't blame them. If the fireservice is paid for out of our taxes why should the motorist pay as well, unless they are going to donate the money back to the public purse.

Is the bill 'part of the theft' ? It's an aftermath of it. A good point though and perhaps they should but what I find so outrageous is that from a contractual point of view she never made the contract and you are never 'able' to make a contract for another without their permission and preferably in writing. It alters the basics of Contract Law. Perhaps it has been changed though?
