Birmingham plans 20mph speed limits on 90% of roads
20mph sign A public consultation on the plans will run from 21 October until the end of November

Speed limits of 20mph could be introduced across 90% of the roads in Birmingham, under a proposal being considered by the city council.

Text bit I saw this morning makes a mockery of democracy. Despite a majority AGAINST this , birmingham have decided to go ahead with 20 limits in a lot more of the city .

Approx two thirds were AGAINST the proposal, and around one third were for it - in response to said consultation.

So that bastards are recommending going for a city-wide 20mph limit :(

Not just loonies, but loonies totaly ignoring the wishes of the people who pay their wages

Boomer- just like the Warks speed reductions- Police said no, Warks county elected folks said no, but Warks officers decided otherwise.

And who pays for these pointless consultations which are then ignored...yes us...so some-one with a job there could be made redundant, as consultations obviously aren't required.

Let it get stupid. And wait for the bleedin' obvious kick-back where no one who makes these ignorant desicions is ever held accountable.

It's the 'Great' British way....

You will be branded a threat to society by going over a speed limit where it is safe to do so, and suffer the consequences of your actions in a way criminals do not, more so than someone who is a real threat to our society.

From the Coventry Telegraph:

"Thousands of people have signed a petition calling for a 20mph speed limit where a student was knocked over and killed in Coventry last month."

From the photos and video of the accident location on the entrance to Tescos car park, it would seem extremely unlikely that speed in excess of 20mph had anything to do with this. More likely a failure on the part of both the student and the driver to take sufficient care.
