Seems Brake ,again, missed some relevant points , or they just against driving ?
"Gary Rae, director of campaigns for Brake, said: "Drivers who kill while taking illegal risks are too often labelled 'careless' in the eyes of the law, and then given insultingly low sentences when their actions can only be described as dangerous and destructive."
"In court, he admitted causing death by dangerous driving, causing death whilst unlicensed, causing death whilst uninsured and dangerous driving"

The problem with upgrading the "careless" offence to become equal with "dangerous" is that a minor driving error by Mrs Average which has unfortunate consequences would result in a long prison sentence and thus be out of proportion to other offences.

For example, Mrs Brown (who has led an exemplary life and has a family to look after) reverses out of a parking space in the supermarket car park. She has not seen the little child standing behind the car next to her. The child runs away to avoid Mrs Brown and into the path of another motorist and is run over and dies. Who is the murderer?

56 years after it was decided it was needed, the Bedford Bypass is nearing completion. The last single carriageway length of it.We have the most photogenic mayor though, always being photographed doing nothing

it's like -where do we place the statue.
Next to Washington- who never told a lie ?
Next to an old Welsh PM , who was reputed never to have told the truth?
Since said person didn't know the difference .

And there lies brake's dilemma. THEY just don't know WHERE to stop/draw the line, so they carry on, dragged into the hole by the force of the shouters, not stopping to look at th surrounding principles.

Nobody is the 'murderer', because there was no intention to kill. There wasn't even any intent to cause any harm.
It was a tragic event that was almost impossible to anticipate.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Perhaps we might start by asking the parents ( as was done with a recent drowning) ,why the child was left alone in a dangerous place without supervision. How many housing estates are now filled with tank traps because parents think it's everybody else's responsibility to keep their kids safe on the road.

The trouble with Brake is they seem to forget it is not only drivers who have resposibility for safety, but all road users and parents have responsibility to ensure their children are safe. How often do you see a toddler way ahead of mum walking along chatting to a friend with no thought about the child's safety. No Brake needs to promote safety amongst its own members and not rely on everbody else.

Wish we had a "LIKE" button. :D
problem with so many organisations telling us that this single thing causes accidents etc is that the focus is taken off overall safety responsibility and instead of safety being looked at in a wide focus, it's now looked at in several single focused ways, with the other views being ignored. My latest example is how a child could get into problems in a packed centre pool without parental supervision and not be seen to be in trouble. However I have my own opinions on this, as at the weekend I +daughter & GS visited this place as GS birthday treat ,and the number of parents with pushchairs, with young kids running loose ( with mother on mobile) made me shudder with fear ,looking at the parking problems and traffic congestion.
