I'm a cabbie in Blackpool and got a ticket on Saturday night at 12.10. There were no signs visible to me regarding this speed trap which I thought the Police had to do. The parked at the bottom of a hill with their car out of side waiting for unsuspecting motorists to come over the brow of the hill. I got done for 40mph in a 30 mph zone.

Does anyone have any info on where these mobile units should operate eg., do they have to put a sign up to say they are operating a unit.

Cheers

Martin

Unless someone knows different then although they should display signs, it does not get you out of the fine I'm afraid. The best site about legal questions and any possible loopholes/defences is http://www.PePiPoo.com .

From what i've seen, sign etc needed to get cash and clasify operation as "safety" -

You have given little info about the site, or who has stopped you, but CO is right, if the police are conducting a speed check then it can be overt or covert, and no warning signs are required.

We routinely receive complaints about the speed of taxis on busy weekend nights. We will respond to these complaints.

Taxi drivers have different incentives to ordinary members of the public to make progress on busy nights. Some less scrupulous operators do take the mickey sometimes, and we have to be fairly covert to catch them. Once one or two taxi drivers are caught speeding the jungle drums start beating and the effect is quite dramatic.

Oh I should co-co. In a town like Telford, the sort of people who get jobs as taxi drivers appear to be the last ones you want taking you home at the end of your night out.
The standard of driving by taxis around here is shocking.
