Anything that is "posted" is effectivley public domain. Private forum or not.

Look at how others pull posts form here to put on their forums, and we have done the same.

Not sure how they can "prove" who actualy made a post though. lets face it if you manage to get someone's log-in you can post in their name.

Moderators need to vigilant to make sure anything that can be construde as self incriminating gets deleted.

You don't need to be a conspiracy theorist to believe that there are “members” in forums that are just looking for such material.

Somebody once said to me..."If you are thinking of saying something risky just imagine how it would sound at a later date if it were repeated in court".

Id be interested to know how the police are planning to prosecute them, to prove beyond any doubt that it was them whom actually typed the post, unless they have confessed.

Surly having an IP address and a screen dump of a post isnt enough evidence is it? Changing, masking and obtaining IP addresses and log in details are not difficult, ask any IT technician.

Did the police even sieze their computer to check the cookies and history? It doesnt look like it since they posted on the same day they were arrested.

At the end of the day, people who don't do exactly what the power pissed control freaks want them to do get sorted out.

People who call on others to protest get sorted out.

The problem with their current policy is when everyone has contributed to the road-theft club, there won't be anyone who's not been targetted.

Still, I do think it's somewhat stupid to post in public all your identifying details for some scum-bag to do this too.

But as was on that thread - what goes around, comes around.

It might be an offence to lie under oath, but it's not an offence to lie on forums.

Oh - I just came home at about 160 mph via Scotland to try out the new fuel in my Honda Accord. I adapted it with a new engine that I put in it - see http://www.bath.ac.uk/~ccsshb/12cyl/

I would'nt consider a screen dump as good evidence. Far too easy to tinker with.
I would'nt take much notice of claims on a forum unless they could be verified either, like the time I drove from one end of the Crook road to the other, while track one played on my Equinox CD! And that was AFTER the 40mph limit was imposed.
Is this YOUR post Common Sense?

It looks very much like it, can anyone see the join???? That time of posting looks suspicious!

IP Addresses can be "spoofed" easily, as any hacker will tell you.

The defendant could easily claim that the forum posting was made by someone else, and it would be difficult for the prosecution to prove otherwise.

Still, it's a lot of hassle for the guy. Be careful what you post, people.

Isn't it great that the Police are trained on scouring the Internet for evidence in order to catch paedophiles, then use their newfound knowledge to go after minor speeding convictions. Very sad.

Actually what they are going after is perjury. Far more serious, and rigorously (and rightly) outlawed both here and on Pepipoo.

Of course, this reinforces the fact that, unless you're absolutely certain who was driving, you are better off declining to make a suggestion, just in case you get it wrong and end up in the same soup.
