Had a days defensive driver training yesterday courtesy of Ride Drive. Observer was a retired TrafPol (30 years service).

A very interesting day. We covered road positioning, steering, brakes, acceleration, etc..

Stuck to 20, 30, 40 and 50 limits rigidly. No more than 20 MPH over NSL. All done in total safety.

I couldn't quite get the hang of pull/push steering so he demonstrated it to me in my own car. Wow! If you ever get the opportunity to sit in with a Class 1 who is 'pushing on' a bit, it is quite amazing to see someone work in total sympathy with a car. I will not forget that for a long time.

The emphasis was on looking for opportunities to make progress. That means being in the right gear when dealing with hazards and being close enough to the vehicle in front to be able to make use of even the smallest piece of available road sapce to get a quick but safe overtake in.

A very enjoyable (yet tiring) day.
