"Why not fit vehicles with speed limiters?

Only HGVs, buses and coaches are fitted with maximum speed limiters, and these do not work at urban speeds where most casualties occur. Variable speed limiters are being investigated by DfT (Department for Transport), but are only at the trial stage and therefore cannot solve our present problem in the short term"

I believe you are right to shout 'money' in this case. Shortly before the M4 cameras Wiltshire Camera Partnership caught a £360,000 cold due to incorrect speed limit signing at Folly Bottom.

But the first post above has 'wrong logic' - If many more people die from cancer than from syphilis, that doesn't mean we can afford to ignore syphilis - and especially so when syphilis can be cured quite easily.

The right logic is that the overall effect of cameras on road safety is to make it worse, not better, because of the side effects.
