I had never heard of the site until I pulled up behind a car in Swindon today, Fri 16th Dec, and saw the sign in the back of a black VW polo diesel.
It made me smile.
The sign itself wasn't funny, nor the car. What was funny was the irony of the protest of the individual driving the car.
You see the car passed me on an urban duel carraige way that has an annoying amount of signs, stating the speed limit as 40mph, every couple of hundred yards, as if we'd forget! No camaras though.
As for the funny bit....she was doing at least 60mph whilst putting her hair back with a scrunchy, as I believe they are called. Perhaps she was steering with her knees?
My point?
When people like that, who drive like that, advertise this site and it's protest I think it rather dilutes your argument if not rendering it completely redundant.

We make two key arguments of particular relevance:

Firstly we're calling for effective roads policing. We'd like to see all manner of bad driving policed.

Secondly we're calling for policy that encourages the right skills, attitudes and sense of responsibility in all road users.

Individual cases of bad driving strengthen the need for our messages sticker or no sticker.

Always assuming this isn't simply a trolling exercise.

Me thinks it is. Why else should they sum up the post they way they did

I have never been on a dual carriageway that "has an annoying amount of signs, stating the speed limit as 40mph"

Trolling? Whats that?
The sticker said M4protest.org and had a picture of a speed camara.
It was a genuine post. I can post the registration number if you'd like and you can ask her about it if that would be legal.
It was tongue in cheek with a bit of irony, stop being so paranoid for god sake.
As for 'annoying', how much do you think they cost?, is it really nesessary to put them up so much.
Ever been to Swindon ( slag it off, I'm only here for the work ) Roundabouts everywhere, even in residential estates! Traffic lights up, down ,up then back down again. Old town.
Come here and have a look if you want to see an 'annoying' amount of unnesessary signs.
As bonus, if you come of the M4 at junction 16 you can follow the signs to the town centre. I know this to be a fact because there is a 20 foot high sign saying FOR TOWN CENTRE FOLLOW 'TOWN CENTRE'.

Safespeed, are you going to give me snotty replies every time I post or do you just do it to newbies to make a point?

erm, I think you'll find that m4protest.org is a different organisation.

Not that it makes her driving any less dodgy, though

Excuse me, but you started it. Your first post was really very 'snotty'. I've actually tried quite hard to give 'flat' replies, although I admit to finding it difficult.

SafeSpeed does NOT give "snotty replies" to newbies at all........In fact, he waited until I had at least 300+ posts to my name before he got on his high horse with me over a discussion relating to IT  .

I remember my welcome was quite nice, but then again my first post was not so agumentative.
If you start shouting at someone, what is their responce going to be?

How do you know it was snotty?
You wanted it to be snotty so that is how you read it.
You are wrong.
You may not like the content but your perception of my mood in writing it is completely off mark as I suspect is the case with the rest of your replies to my post's.
Instead of imagining somebody banging a table with thier fist why not imagine somebody being quite calm, placid, looking slightly bemused by your reactions and thinking that perhaps I should hold off from writing a novel lest it gets taken up by the fascist right as a sequal to Mien Kampf.

Your waaay off target fella's, lighten up, grab a beer and chill the f*** out.

Shall we take a vote..........

I say snotty

Having established the fact that the fundimental basis for you post was wrong, i.e it was nothing to do with SafeSpeed. The best thing you can do is just let it go.

Or in otherwords........."when in hole stop digging"

Ok Witchescat - what is being said is( and before you go off the deep end, they shout at anyone who upsets them)

Either by the manner of your initial post you are trolling ( trying to elicit responses to creat problems)
Or you phrasedyour initial post rather badly ( something, i'm often accused off, forgetting that to me it makes sense, but to others , from another area it don't)

Your post basicilly said "if people having your ( ss) sign in the rear window drive like that it's not a good advert for you , is it?"

OK- it's not - but a lot of what this site is about is getting a return to having the old fashioned concept of our roads being policed by professional, experienced traffic police . In that case this young lady would have been pulled over and at least given a stern talking to .

To the rest of the forum ., i understand his problem , got it a lot of the time myself, time to welcome a new user, convert him to the way of thinking etc etc????
On the other hand, they usualy do wait till you've postesd a lot till they take the p**.

Witchescat - try rephrasing your point.

Well then why not just move the post to the appropriate thread instead of wading in

Welcome to the forum.

You'll have to forgive Paul, we do get an awful lot of trolling posts here so it is only natural that we get a bit paranoid.

Look at it this way though. At least on this forum, unlike others we could mention, we don't insist on vetting every post before they are displayed and not allow any which contradict our point of view.

Unfortunately we do not have control of every driver who choses to display support for our cause or for related causes. If you stick around you will find that th etype of driving you mention is exactly why we think speed cameras are such a bad idea. The driver you saw would at best get a ticket for speeding several days after the event. Nothing in the way of education, no comment on other aspects of her driving.

The best outcome you could hope for from a speed camera is the driver will drive more slowly, not more safely.

Homer - you reflect my sentiments - perhaps ( as i posted) Witchescat might like to repost using slightly inflamatory language.

.....and I've seen complete 'dogs' wearing 'princess' & 'gorgeous' 'T' shirts. It doesn't make them look any better.

It's only a label / sticker - anybody can 'say' one thing & do another.

Snotty. And ill-informed. And inflammatory.

Was I like this when I was a newbie?

No - but some people almost thought that .His problem is that the tone is wrong.

Witchescat is obviously refering to Queens Drive which is a dual carriageway of a couple of miles, no footpaths, which is indeed signposted every few yards as 40 with a fixed camera halfway up. I live near Swindon and know not to speed along its length..

I think the point is that the driver was driving in an inappropriate manner, I doubt they would be doing 60 on that stretch as it notorious as a scamera site. How do you know what speed they were doing?

Maybe they bought the car with the sticker in it already. Has Witchescat never bought a car with a sticker in it from a previous owner (private or trade)??
