I have just found out that the "free" speed camera database at www.pocketgps.co.uk is soon going to be charged for. Before I commit to buying this, does anybody know of any alternatives?

There is not real D.I.Y. alternative, well not that I know of - just download it whilst it's free, and cough up the couple of quid in the future should you feel the need for the latest update. I use it on a weekly basis as part of TomTom. It's fairly accurate as it's made up from public submissions.
