Was it NSL dual Liebchen - in which case you can relax.... If a single carriageway... like A66 in part which ist two laner but no central reserve.. ist a fave hunting ground for sub-marinated wars on HGV und caravans ...

But perhaps as new driver - you should read lieber IG's tips to drive to COAST ;)

75 in a 70
71 in a 70
52 in a 50
and only 38 in a 40

i think you'll be ok - the guidelines are set to 10% + 2 and i think everyone sticks to these as a minimum which would equate to:

79 mph in a 70
68 mph in a 60
57 mph in a 50
46 mph in a 40
35 mph in a 30

It would be perhaps around Leeds, Cleveland or outskirt of Newcastle stretches as N Yorks und Durham per lieber gemini on PH und lieber IG tend to use unmarked cars :yikes: on their patches of this road.

But in any case - I think you should be OK at 73 mph per GPS.

Ist perhaps normal Liebchen... und sad indictment that ist more worry over these blips und attention to dash than to road ahead.

Ist COAST - observing und perceiving potential hazard und planning your drive so as to avoid conflict with other road user - und to consider the other on road with courtesy...ist about considering how your drive affected another... und being able to stop comfortably on your side of road in distance you can see to be clear... This method help keep compliance und safety

Und you can always set your useful gadget to blip at 0.0000001 above the 70 mph as well

I would read IG's tips, buy copy of "Driving - Essential Skills" und "How to Pass IAM Test" und also make enquiries about IAM. Our eldest 18 year old son ist now IAM qualified - 12 months after passing his L-test... he ist chip off old block :hehe:

But in meantime - relax... set your gadget to help you as a useful guidance tool for confidence boosting und training you to "feel the speed"

Quite right Vrenchen - even I will admit that you are sometimes.

I've just received my copy of the bumph from the IAM, and the book is now entitled: "How to be an Advanced Driver" - which I think is an improvement. The title should never have referred simply to passing a test!!

Best wishes all,
Dave.

At least you know what the speed limit is supposed to be, which is more than most. Why don't you stay inside the limit to start with, rather then filling your pants after you have each close shave? Are you like a moth that is drawn to the light?

I don't see any need to be judgemental - you yourself admitted to exceeding the speed limit on occasion earlier today. Hypocrisy? I think so...

Are you still telling young drivers to pay no heed to the limits? I thought I’d had that out with you - where is your outrage now?

You know very well that I believe excessive concern with speed limits to be dangerous.

I'm not telling mhcd_2000 to have “excessive concern” - I'm asking him to drive with the intention to stay within the limits, as he did when he trained for and passed his test. I concede that a balance can be struck (that is not hypocrisy, as you very well know – you are just taking the piss on that) but this chap says he has been over the limit 3 times out of 4 - it's only a matter of time before mhcd_2000 gets stung if he carries on like this.

Quote:

75 in a 70
71 in a 70
52 in a 50
and only 38 in a 40 (something to build on?)

My advice – ease off the pedal and try to stay within the limit if you can.

That's not good enough for the scammers, only 100% compliance above all else is enough. See here.

Even 100% isn't enough with the dodgyscope out there. :(

The coppers (and thier bosses) should cut drivers a little more slack, I admit that. But not too much!

If they go back to applying an 'unsafety filter', I'll be happy. (On reflection they would have to give out accurate road safety information as well before I'd be happy.)

Unfortunately, some "partnership" areas are discarding this rule in favour of 1 mph over speed limit = go to speed awareness course. If you have already been, or choose not to go, then you are back to £60 + 3pts. In other words, getting rid of the guidelines by the back door. However, I have also read elsewhere on this forum, that non-compliance with the ACPO guidelines means no prosecution case. Having said that, I would not like to go to court with the defence "I was only doing 78 mph, and they should only prosecute me for doing 79mph in a 70mph limit", though.
