The recent rises in Police accidents have prompted some fresh claims about reduced Police driver training standards.

Many people have complained bitterly about lowered standards at Hendon, with staff cycled out after a couple of years, shorter courses, and a general breaking up of the former pool of expertise.

If you know anything interesting about changes to Police driver training over the last 15 years or so, please tell us all you can.

Safe Speed is arranging a conference in the Midlands area on 24th March 2004 to discuss the the benefits of driver training in general and to prepare a message to take to our presentation to MPs on the 25th March 2004.

Anyone involved with driver training at a high level will be welcome to attend the conference. We will be specifically inviting advanced driving instruction organisations and Class 1 / advanced Police drivers, both serving and retired.

Gather together your best information, and come along on the 24th if at all possible. I'll announce exact details as soon as possible.

Paul, would you be interested in a representative from the HGV Driving fraternity?

It's probably not going to be of direct interest, but we could certainly accept "guests" as well as "delegates". I'm really looking for folk who have been involved in police driver training courses (or HPC, which is the nearest civillian equivalent). See what you think when I publish the information in a day or two.
