In a VAN without proper seats & restraints (unless you're converting it to a hearse)- NIL, with proper seating etc (aka Escort estate) as many as you can fit without getting falling foul of zealous police.

I'd be interested to know what the definition of a seat is? The police seem to be able to put people in the back of their transits. these seem to have hard sidewards facing seats, no seat belts (let alone airbags) and in a cage!

And drunks just get put onto the floor like a piece of luggage. So where does the law stand on this?

I think the ones with the side facing seats are called a crew-bus. not sure what the law says on seat belts for them.

As many as you can fit after loading up with power tools, bags of cement, bricks, copper piping and other assorted loose/heavy/sharp stuff..

Ask any builder!
