Hi all,

Is this a laboratory curiosity or a possible cause of road accidents?

I can't say I've ever experienced anything I thought was equivalent on the road.

Bizzare!

Maybe to do with it being easier to spot movement than stationary detail.
Sort of like when you lose track of your mouse cursor on the computer
screen; wiggle the mouse and it jumps right out. Probably we evolved this
way to hunt and avoid being hunted.

If so, it could be a good thing for road safety, allowing earlier detection
of moving hazards.

Not while driving but many years ago when trains still ran in this country :P I could make one track (of a parrallel pair to those my train was on) disappear by staring at the other.

Can't see it affecting drivers unless they are actually staring continuously at the horizon. If such people exist I don't imagine they are interested enough in motoring to actually visit this forum.

Next time I am a passenger and the road isn't too busy I'll try it.
