I've been keeping up the dialogue with the boys in blue, and raised the question of the Lancs speed awareness courses. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I understood that they were "inviting" motorists pinged at 34mph or below to attend. "Black rat" gives me this information:

cjb,

The official line from Lancashire is as follows:

No action is taken against motorists travelling less than 5mph above the given speed limit. For example no motorist is detected at 31, 32, 33 or 34mph in a 30mph area.

Any comments or counter-evidence?

Wife had this same response from her pet Lancs BiB on PH! (posts as Dibble as in Officer Dibble! To a CAT!

The fixed Gatso's up until April were pinging people as low as 3 mph over, whilst a BiB operated zap was at 10%+2 setting - or appears to be case from our Speeding Hill Billy's "research" - ( he has a golfing pal in the Lancs Force! )

However, a colleague is fighting a NIP issued to him at 34mph when he triggered it back in March on return to see to a patient. He tells me he will be sending copy to our Paulie as soon as his lawyers have finished with it!. Some of the nurses have been invited to this course over past couple of years -and some claim their NIPs were at 34mph too! Have asked them to dig them out for me - but not always in hospital at same time as these nurses!

I note as well that your "Black Rat" says "Official line" - I would set as much credence to it as the "official" in those government statistics on scamera success!

After Lancs police anounced last month that they were modifiying their rules etc. there was a phone in on Radio Lancs with the Chief Constable (or Deputy Chief - cannot remember). I only caught the last 20mins but a couple of people phoned up to say they had been done @ 34mph (by their response there must have been other people that had phoned in earlier with the same question.). They said to write to the Chief Constable with as much detail as possible as he would investigate it as it should only have been happening at 35mph.

I got pinged at 35mph last November and everyone on the course (14 of us plus 1 no show) was also done at 35.

Must admint that I thought the course was very good - especially the hazard awarness bit.

I'm glad to hear it was useful and not simply eight hours of someone shouting "speed kills" at you.

But has it stopped you doing 35 in a 30? Ever?

Even this one?

Nope there was no preaching or anything like. Just a discussion about why people speed, what the consequences are, hazard awarness and the practical driving.

I live in Blackpool so I wouldn't dare drive at 35 - well apart from last November :(

Now have sat nav on a pocket PC with a speed camera database so that every 10 secs is saying 'Approaching danger zone' in an annoying German accent.
