I was recently driving along a 30mph road in Nottingham, where a mobile speed camera van was parked on the side of the road with it's equipment set up. I immediately checked my speedometer and was doing 34mph (I had been concentrating on the road ahead rather than my speedometer up to this point and was not driving at a speed too fast for the road). I slowed down straight away (I am not in the habit of driving over 30mph in a 30 zone anyway). The question is have is as follows:

The mobile speed camera was on the opposite side of the road (parked on the verge) with the camera facing towards me. There were cars going in the opposite direction between me and the camera. Was the camera pointing at me or at traffic on the other side of the road?

If you were doing an indicated 34mph (which means that you were more than likely travelling under 34mph) then you are within the 10% + 2 threshold anyway and are very unlikely to be pinged.

I think that's what Nottinghamshire Police would rather we did, judging by the average speed cameras all over the city!
