Has anyone else come across these factually incorrect, intellectually offensive signs?

They were on several lamposts around the lincoln area today and I felt many motorists would have found them slightly patronising.

Anyway, today I was out for a drive and I checked my speed I felt my life had been saved as i was travelling at 38mph, not the 40mph maximum posted speed.

Has anyone else's life been saved by these signs or is it just me?

To recap: they were in the lincoln area attactched to many a lampost, close to Louth, market Ransen, mablethorpe and Brigg.
