From the letters page in today's Daily Mail.
Two constables were sent out on seperate traffic-calming duties and both parked just inside a 30mph speed restricted zone.
The first, who was eager to reach his alloted target, hid his van and photograhed every car above the speed limit, no matter by how little and even though most of the drivers were in the process of reducing their speed to 30mph.
The second, keen to contribute to the safety of the public, made sure his police car was on display so that drivers approaching the speed restricted site would be reminded of the local by-law.
Any who were still speeding were stopped and reminded of the reasons for the restriction.
The first slept badly that night because only £5,940 had been collected and he missed his target by £60. The second also slept badly because he didn't know how he would be able to convince his boss that he had spent his time well, even though the 100 cars that had passed him were keeping to the speed limit and the public was being kept safe.
