PRINCE Harry has been branded a reckless “boy racer” by worried Army mums.

They fear for their kids’ safety as Harry, 21, regularly disregards the 20mph speed limit at his base in Bovington, Dorset.

One local said: “I saw the Prince doing 60mph on a 30mph road off the base.”

Parents are furious how Harry dives his sporty black Audi A3 coupe inside Allenby Barracks.

Mum-of-two Sandra McGhee, who works at the base, said: “He drives around the barracks like a maniac. There are a lot of children around here who are worried for their safety.

“The boy needs to slow down before he has a serious accident and ends up injuring himself, or worse, someone else.

“A number of the mums got together to speak with senior officers and they have promised to get it sorted. Just because he is a royal he shouldn’t get away with being reckless.”

Harry is on a four-month tank commanders’ course at Bovington, just across the road from Bovington First School. One local told how he saw watched Harry whizz out of the base two weeks ago.

He said: “Harry came out of the front gate and turned left towards the village of Wool.

“As soon as he got out of the gates he just shot off. His protection officers were following and had to hammer it just to catch up.

“It’s a 30mph zone and he must have been pushing 60 only a few hundred yards down the road.”

Another mum said she saw the Prince have a near miss with one of the camp’s cats.

She said: “There was this almighty screech of brakes and I looked up to see his car grind to a halt feet from this startled tabby in the road. There would have been hell to pay if he’d run it over. If he doesn’t slow down he will have a serious accident.”

Harry was also seen recently driving back from nearby Weymouth at high speed.

And locals near the hamlet of Shaggs — where Harry has been staying in a secluded farmhouse with girlfriend Chelsy Davy — have complained about his driving.

He is frequently seen pulling up outside a store opposite the base to buy packets of Marlboro Light cigarettes and crisps.

A shop worker said: “You can hear him before he gets here. Harry drives like a lunatic. He loves to show off.”

It was claimed the Prince has been seen haring along country roads near the Weld Arms, a pub where he drinks with Chelsy.

Harry has been at Bovington since he passed out of Sandhurst military academy at Easter, and has five weeks to go there.

A Clarence House spokesman said last night: “We are not aware of any complaints.”

And a Ministry of Defence spokesman said they would investigate a formal complaint and treat the allegations seriously.

Others are also concerned with the speed Harry does around Allenby Barracks at the base. The speed limit is 20mph and Prince Harry has been seen doing far greater speeds.

A woman who works at the base described Harry’s efforts saying “He drives around the barracks like a maniac. There are a lot of children around here who are worried for their safety. The boy needs to slow down before he has a serious accident and ends up injuring himself, or worse, someone else. Harry, who drives a sporty Audi A3, was also accused of a near miss with a base cat. Other claims have Harry driving recklessly around the village of Wool, near Weymouth and towards his love nest at Shaggs.

The complaints are news to Clarence House, with a spokesperson saying “We are not aware of any complaints.”

A local shopkeeper also confirmed Harry’s lead foot saying “You can hear him before he gets here. Harry drives like a lunatic. He loves to show off.” Harry apparently visits the shop opposite the base at Bovington to buy his cigarettes.

A Ministry of Defence spokesperson said that any compliant received would be investigated seriously.

The latest claims about Harry are reminiscent of allegations made against Prince William, who later apologised for speeding.

Once again it would seem to be one law for them and another for us. Despite being escorted by police officers, who would have witnessed the speeding, he is allowed to speed with impunity, while for you or I more than a few mph over the limit is enough to get us a fine and penalty points.

Rapid acceleration shouldn't be confused with high speeds - I wonder if this was genuinely a case of high speed or merely rapidly reaching something closer to the 30 limit than to the estimated 60... Note the emphasis here - the local is suggesting that the speed MUST have been around 60, yet how can he be certain of this? His ESTIMATE of the speed being 60 is just that, an estimate, not the certainty it appears to be based on this article.

She admits to only paying attention to the road once she heard the noise of the braking, so she has absolutely no idea how the situation developed prior to that point - was the cat just sat there quietly minding its own business and in a position where any half-competent driver would have seen it with plenty of time to gently come to a halt, or did it dart out of cover into an otherwise empty road, forcing an emergency stop to be made? And if she didn't see him approaching, she is just assuming he was driving quickly based on the noise of the braking - yet if you anchor up hard enough you can get your brakes/tyres to make some quite unpleasant noises even from fairly low speeds.

NEWSFLASH: Audi A3 unable to travel faster than the speed of sound...

Seriously, whilst some cars are quiet enough such that you can barely hear them when they're driving right past you, many cars do make enough noise even when being driven fairly responsibly to be audible at distance. Noise in itself really only tells you how hard the engine is revving, it doesn't then tell you how fast the car is moving - I can easily make far more noise accelerating up to 30-40 than I can cruising at 70-80...



OK, so there seems to be a lot of individual bits of "evidence" to suggest he might be a bit of a nutter behind the wheel, but does that justify comments like this which sound as if they've come straight out of the T2000 phrasebook?

60 in the 30 limit at Bovington? Yeah I've done that. It's not inherantly dangerous. I missed the :30: signs (all two of them) because I was paying attention to the traffic lights and the APC coming towards me. The road is VERY wide. (4-5 cars wide, possibly 3 tanks/APCs wide with pavements both sides)

The only difference is the street lights which, as this was during the day, are not something you pay any attention to at all.

Coming out of the barracks there might not be any :30: signs. I know that if you go into the Tank Museum you enter from an NSL road. Go out the other end adn it's a 30 limit. The road looks no different so you would have no reason to suspect that there is a limit on it.

All this of course is completely different to driving like a f***ing eejit.

And as for being able to hear him coming... Are they complaining about the noise? Can he really be noisier than a tank? They... ehm... aren't the quietist things around...

People do over-estimate. I doubt if he did drive at alleged speeds. Despite all the conspiracy theories - I do happen to know how far death or injury of a loved one in a car influences well into the future. It matters not one jot over alleged or proven reason. It lasts . he may have screeched brakes... pulled up sharp ...... give impression of "faster" than legal - but "dangerous" :? :scratchchin:

But in some ways Harry seems to be to Wills as my own Nickl is to my own William. Raunchier, sassier .. but a safe kid and knows the score. Given what happened to his mother - whatever we may or may not think of the late Princess Diana of Wales - I do doubt this sassy and very likeable young man behaved as alleged [i] because of how his mother died as a victim of a speeding driver who may have had a drink beforehand - but as a man who liked a drink - may not have been drunk in normal interpretatiion of the law - but who clipped a kerb on the Alma Tunnel and overturned as a result,.

I say this as I know this tunnel and I would say a clip at speed would overturn any car regardless of tailgater or flash of headlamp. The late Princess - however we view her and I say she was vapid in character but easy on the naked eye.... my own wife is a lot more "photogenic" and like a true beauty - unaware of her beauty inside and out. :wink:

She will be embarrased to read my comments as to her beauty :wink:

But back to her son. I doubt he was driving like a "maniac" even though I am no real fan of the Royal Family. I neither like nor dislike - but admit that it cannot be so easy to live in such public glare.

I will look beyond "title" and view Harry as a normal young man who lost his mother in a teenage year where her support as a mother was much needed. (She was devoted to her boys... whatever view I hold of her as a person - I would never take this from her memory - it would be unfair to her after all )

As such - I do doubt the story. I know my own kids. Wildy did not die -- but they are very aware of the dangers as a result. I am sure Princes William and Harry are equally aware of the dangers of driving after a drink and driving at an unsafe speed

The typical junior officer is not exactly going to drive like a granny, is he? I'd be surprised if Harry was any worse than a lot of his colleagues, it's just that the media spotlight is turned on him.

Mind you - he's not breeding out! :lol: They've all been done for speeding!

Vicount Linley and Princess Anne received bans in the past under tot-up. Or Princess Anne was the first Royal to appear before the beak :lol: if I remember rightly. Think it was because she was on 12 points! Diana was even pulled for speeding once in her Cabriolet on the M4 :roll:

Prince William and Prince Andrew each got pulled over for speeding as well. Think Prince Andrew pulled the "in an 'urry - miss me plane" routine too :roll:

But yep - these are in public glare all the time and media will focus on anything normal but a bit naughty they may do. :wink:

Maybe his brakes need a bit of TLC to stop them squealing when applied? Or maybe it was a bit of poetic licence from the witness/reporter in order to jazz up the comment and bring it to the standard required by the Sun...

I quite like this kid. He's got some spunk and rebels. Like Mad Doc not a fan of the Royals - but I cannot say I dislike either. But .. Prince Harry :lol:

OK - he's basically a nice lad - but like alll kids his age - he'll try it on and I do hope he learns sharp lessons along the way like any other young lad.

Let's all be honest here - we all pushed it as far as we could gets away with at his age. |I did. mad Doc did. Entire Swiss riff-raff did. Our own kids do too :shock: :?

His problem? Unlike the est of us - his every action is pounced on with glee by the tabloids.

Yes - will agee that driving in the polo car park with his tipsy so called pals on his bonnet is not the most prudent of actions. I am sure when he has grown up a lot - like the rest of us - he'll shudder and wonder how the hell he survived to his middle years :lol:

We've all done daft things.. Wildy once skied down a mountain whilst a bit squiffy on her 18th birthday. I went skinny dipping on my 21st - at my own party in front of all the guests :roll: :oops: Will not go into what scrapes I got into at Uni either :oops: :lol: I seem to recall a desire to perfect a hand brake turn at one point though :shock: :?

Young Royals... Prime Minister's offspring - no different to any other kid... sassing at authority.. challenging - but unlike chavs - within a limit/. :wink: Their problem: Tabloids who will seize and spin it all out - and I admit to feeling a little sorry for them on this count.

He celebrated this birthday in Switzerland at our family home - und being a huge family - we hired the local "Lido". It was quite a display :rotfl:

But back to young Prince - he's like all young lads. Ist to be hoped that his body guards do have quiet chat about COAST und safety led handling of car - und encourage him to do IAM und a HPC course so that he can learn how to really squeal them brakes :wink:

All i've seen in the papers ( including the Sun) was Army wives shouting "we reckon his speed was xxxxxx" ---any proof - my daughter and son in law are ex army -- the sign in their housing said "CHILDREN --DANGER " --and both reckoned the danger was to passing cars .

Wife's neice lived on two/three army camps ( same thing --- all cars were speeding)

So what chance Harry ??
