Middle-class speeders 'hypocrites' - AOL News

A chief constable has slammed middle-class motorists who criticise law-breakers but think nothing of speeding.

Julie Spence, outgoing head of Cambridgeshire Police, said careless driving was among "the worst kind of social behaviour".

In a newspaper interview, Mrs Spence also aired concern over Government spending cuts, claiming they could lead to an "anorexic" service and spoke of fears that some forces would have to cut budgets by up to 25%.

"That scenario is 'undoable' - just not achievable if you want any semblance of a police service," she said.

But it was errant motorists that were the main focus of her attack, saying that speeding was "middle-class anti-social behaviour".

"People think we should be able to get away with it. They wouldn't tolerate law-breaking by somebody else but they do it themselves without thinking," she said.

"It all seems OK until something tragic happens, like their child dies because of a road traffic accident."

56 years after it was decided it was needed, the Bedford Bypass is nearing completion. The last single carriageway length of it.We have the most photogenic mayor though, always being photographed doing nothing
