Suffolk: Council pulls speed camera funding

TRANSPORT schemes across the county are set to be hit by the council’s cuts.

A big question mark was raised over the future of speed cameras across Suffolk after the county council signalled its intention to withdraw the £1.2million it pays towards the Safety Camera Partnership.
It hopes that the partnership can continue with its funding replaced by fees charged to drivers who take speed awareness courses run by the police.
The Safety Camera Partnership last night declined to comment on the proposal.

Meanwhile, it was also confirmed that the withdrawal of the park and ride from Bury Road in Ipswich would go ahead and that the budget for subsidised bus services would be cut by more than half.
The county is to reduce the number of times it cuts grass verges on unclassified and “C” Class roads from twice a year to once.
And there is also set to be a substantial reduction in the maintenance of pavements across the county.
