I refuse to be dragged into this arguement... There is an internationally accepted method for setting speed limits, I am sure that there will be many references to the "85th percentile rule" on the 'net. There is a difference between regulating your speed, and constantly monitoring it because you're on a 60 foot wide streach of tarmac where the speed limit has been reduced from 70 to 40 and put 3 speed cameras there to cash in on anyone who drifts a little over...

AND, this thread isn't about limits, it's about the inappropriate placement of cameras, such that they are simply a revenue stream.

yes you should be - that's what you learn on your theory test and so If you have forgotten perhaps you should do it again?

Actually, I've done tests using onboad computer diagnostics with my car, and found the most efficient speed... and yes, I do drive at that speed somtimes, if I have nowhere to be.. I enjoy driving, that's why I am an enthusiast...

But Salad and Lentils are very healthy... but somtimes you fancy a burger, or don't have time...

Now... lets get this thread back onto the topic at hand, apprologies for rising to the trolls.

I have an aftermarket ECU in my car that tells me all the telemetry, I get better milliage at 100 than I do at 56!!!

Some cars dont even hit 2000RPM at 100, so its a null point I think.

This forum is about the proposed protest on the M4. There are other more suitable threads for you to air your views and get the attention you so badly seek, there is no need to hijack this one.

Point taken but As others have widened the debate within this one I feel it is more than appropriate for me to continue the discussion also.

Hello indeed,

I took my test nearly 20 years ago, and I have also never had a fine for speeding.... While traveling almost a million miles. I have also never damaged a car while driving it...

I think that qualifies me to air my opinion that the recent changes in enforcement policy will criminalise many very safe drivers, for traveling a few miles per hour over a speed limit (which may have recently been lowered for no good reason)... when it would clearly be quite safe to travel faster.

Your opinion is abundently clear... so lets leave it at that.

it is lovely to know that you put me on such an equal footing, many others may try to push forward the view that they are more qualified to have an opinion because of their experience, I applaud you for not doing so and I am glad that my views are clear enough for you to understand.

Consistent real-time government monitoring of the populace is just around the corner.

At the end of the day, you are missing the point of the protest. Its nothing to do with speeding and breaking the law. In fact, i myself rarely go above about 68 mph along that stretch of the M4, even before cameras. It is nice to have the ability to overtake a lorry, for example, in the quickest time possible by breaking the limit slightly. A traffic officer would observe this behaivour, and if performed correctly would have no issue. A robot does not provide this facility, neither does it prevent bad driving and incorrect speed for the conditions, which a traffic officer does

Ah - so you're against speed cameras because they have the potential to be used to monitor the population a la 1984, NOT because you think they are a money making scheme or because you want to drive fast?

Unfortunately the fact of the matter is that there has to be a limit whether it be 70, 80 or whatever. And this limit should be strictly enforced both with cameras and police. You cant have a variable limit, ie 60 in rain, 75 for passing lorries, 90 at 3 in the morning etc as it would be possble to enforce. I do think there should be more traffic police to catch bad driving such as going to fast in fog. Correct me if I am wrong but I think they tried a lower spead limit in france for bad weather (not sure if it worked)
It seems the people on this forum cannot accept that the 70 mph is the law.
