Number 10 real road safety petitions:

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Camera

Quote:
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Review the use of speed cameras as they can cause rather than prevent accidents.

Submitted by Dr. Andrew I Johnson – Deadline to sign up by: 18 June 2007 – Signatures: 20

A speed camera is a blunt and heavy instrument, like a hammer.

It has far reaching effects. It changes driver behaviour. It changes everyone's safety priorities. It changes the way the roads are policed. It has done immeasurable damage to the police / public relationship. Far from being a precision tool, it's the equivalent of a rather heavy and badly aimed hammer.

Speed cameras are obviously bad psychology.

According to Department for Transport figures only 5% of crashes involve a speeding vehicle. This survey is evidence of gross distortions of public opinion caused directly by speed camera and speed kills propaganda.

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/NoSpeedCameras

Quote:
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Come clean about the FAILURE of Speed Cameras to reduce accident rates and then abolish all forms of automated speed detection.

Submitted by Ian Levitt-Smillie – Deadline to sign up by: 20 January 2007 – Signatures: 880

The Governments own published statistical evidence points to its failure to reduce road casualties by Automated Speed Detection.

This has resulted in an increase in accidents and death rates, but a reduction in Police Offices on traffic duty.

Scrap the cameras and camera partnerships and increase the number of traffic offices.

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/hgvspeedlimit

Quote:
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to raise speed limit for hgvs from 40mph to 50mph on national speed limit roads.

Submitted by PAUL ODONNELL – Deadline to sign up by: 10 January 2008 – Signatures: 6

as a professional hgv driver ive been involved in 2 fatal rta.s due to motorist overtaking hgvs due to hgvs been restricted to 40 mph on single carriageway national speed limit roads(rural).this speed causes motorist to get annoyed and take risks to get passed the hgv.i see it everyday of the week. this speed limit was imposed when hgv's had poor braking systems its now time to raise the limit and stop people from been killed.whats more annoying is i can drive through many built up areas in a hgv at 40mph if the speed limit for cars is 40mph

Closed petitions:

http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/SpeedingFines/

Quote:
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Freeze all speeding fines levied against motorcyclists until such time that the Government tests and approves all speed detection equipment for use specifically on motorcycles. More details

Submitted by Chris Newbigging of Emap Automotive – Deadline to sign up by: 12 January 2007 – Signatures: 3,529

Speed detection equipment has been proven to be untested for it's accuracy on motorcycles. Various devices have been proven to give innaccurate or false readings when used on motorcycles. We petition the Government to freeze all speeding fines levied against motorcyclists until speed detection equipment has been tested and approved by an independent body for use on motorcycles.

If adding to this list, please try to ensure that the petition isn't 'dodgy' There are a good few dodgy ones up there.
