Paul - Beg pardon, but I can't remember if I've signed this or not. Is there any harm in me doing it now?

I don't want to fiddle things and sign it twice, but OTOH I do want to support it once! Is there any way of checking who has signed etc.?

Best wishes all,
Dave.

If you use a single email address, I believe that the petition software will remind you that you have signed already.

If you use multiple email addresses it's more difficult. This link: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/scrapcam/?showall=1 will list all the signatories, but 22,000 line pages are a bit extreme and may take a long time to load or crash your browser. If you can get it to load you could then do a text search on your name.

edit: And since this is the start of a new page, here's the main 'scrapcam' link again:

Presently climbing slowly at 23,533 and one month to go. Still ranked 8th.

Safe Speed issued the following PR at 11:59 today:

PR490: Scrap speed cameras petition, 23,500 and rising

news: for immediate release

The Safe Speed campaign official 'Scrap Speed Cameras' petition on the 10
Downing Street web site has attracted over 23,500 signatures and has one month
left to run.

See: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/scrapcam

It is presently the 8th most frequently signed petition out of 7,387 open
petitions and closes on the 26th June (2007).

Paul Smith, founder of SafeSpeed.org.uk, said: "Speed cameras have been a road
safety disaster, supported only by official spin, seriously dodgy statistics
and vested interests. We will not be able to get road safety back on track
until speed cameras have been scrapped. The problem is that speed cameras come
with very serious negative side effects. We have published a report that lists
40 such side effects, [1] but Department for Transport have cancelled their
research into the side effects.

"Some of the negative side effects bear directly on driver quality, while
official research cites declining driver quality as the cause of our extremely
disappointing road safety performance in recent years [2]. Safe Speed research
clearly demonstrates the links between 'bad road safety policy', itself founded
on speed cameras, and declining driver quality."

"I urge everyone who cares about road safety to examine the facts and sign the
petition."

"We must scrap speed cameras for safety's sake. We have to stop chasing
rainbows and concentrate on the things that matter. Road user quality is our
most precious road safety asset by far - and speed camera are damaging it
badly."

"I'd like to thank everyone who has signed the petition, but 10 Downing Street
are all set to deny me the opportunity to email them." [3]

With one month to go, 'scrapcam' could use a significant boost.

What can YOU do to help?

Scrapcam is still 8th with 23,642 signatures. It has 28 days left to run.

There's another one or two very similar - this one goes on till jan 2008 -
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/speedcamerasre/

"Scrap plans to build new speed cameras.

Remove all existing speed cameras."
Problemis, it doesen't give the same logical reasoning as the SS one.

TEN DAYS LEFT

Still 8th with 24,893 signatures.

I see from a discussion on Pistonheads that many people aren't getting their confirmation email. See: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topi ... 0&t=401674 (requires free registration).

Anyone got any ideas about the problems with confirmation emails?

- Can we verify the extent of the problem? How?
- Can we find out if its confined to scrapcam? How?
- Can we build up enough evidence to interest the press? How?
- Can we complain? How? Who to?

With just TEN DAYS LEFT it's time for a final push. Tell your friends! Tell other forums! PLEASE!

I received a confirmation email when I registered, however in the light of the response received from the road pricing petition, and recent press releases, I’d say they seen it coming. I wouldn't put it past the government to start tampering. :(

Is it worth asking the PH guys if their names have been registered on the site? Or maybe it's worth registering your mother using a different email address and see if her name appears.

Ok, I've registered for someone else, on their behalf, using a different email address and their name has appeared on the list.

Are people sure they haven't already signed the petition - in which case they won't get an e-mail?

I know this has happened with the Greater Manchester Congestion Charge petition. Hello Brian ;)

Mrs B asked me to add hers - and all the young B's that drive have done so . Even asked friends and relatives in sath to sign .

Perhaps some mention on some of Paul's press reports - like " SS has a petition going . show your support - sign our petition "Things like Sun/Star/Waily like this sort of publicity

Very significant result, let's all shout it from the rooftops.

Well done, safespeed.

The home page can now be updated to reflect the more than 26000 signatures on the petition.

Well done, all, wonder how many will be signing in the last 2 days...

LAST DAY - CLOSES AT MIDNIGHT TUESDAY

Tell your friends they have one last chance.

It put on 645 during Monday, which is good, but with your help Tuesday can be much better.

Currently 26,724.

Now 26,952 and putting on about 100 / hour.

It's good, but I'd rather it was 1,000 / hour - spread the word that it's the last day.

Not so fast!

It's still open, I think because their clock is on GMT, I noticed this before.

And it'll keep going up for a while after it closes because it can be 'signed' while open, and 'confirned' after it closes.

Scrapcam closed at 1am 27th (midnight GMT on the 26th) with 27,950 signatures. It was 7th most signed in the open petitions when it closed and is now 8th most signed in the closed petitions.

If it gains another 100 'cinfirmations' it'll rise to 7th in the closed petitions out of 2,861.

It's a good result. I've been especially pleased that it has been in the top 0.1% of petitions for some time.

Many thanks to all who assisted.
